How to Remove the Stink From My Dryer

Does your dryer machine stink? This common issue is due to a combination of mold, mildew and bacteria. It can be a result of leaving wet clothes in the dryer for a prolonged period or the built up of lint that has become damp and moldy. Over time releasing a foul odor that's not pleasant to the nose.

Hopefully with a little DIY and will power, you can remove the stench with DVM Home and Outdoor's step-by-step instructions!

It all begins with the lint screen

1) Pull out the dryer's lint screen and pull off any lint.

2) Wipe the screen with a dry microfiber rag to remove any remaining lint.

Then use an old toothbrush dipped in warm, soapy water to brush off the residue. (Allow it to dry completely before putting it back into the machine).

3) Use the vacuum hose attachment and vacuums out the lint trap.

It's all about the dryer drum

4) In a container with a mixture of 1 cup bleach and 1 gallon of warm water, dip a rag into the mixture and wring it thoroughly.

5) Wipe the inside of the dryer and the door with the mixture. Leave the door open to allow it to air dry.

6) After it dries, repeat the process with a water dampened cloth, make sure to leave the door open to air dry. (don't put clothes in the dryer until the bleach has dried completely, or it can cause clothes discoloration)

Last but not least

7) Pour white vinegar in a spray bottle, damp a few towels with the spray bottle.

8) Put the towels in the dryer and run a drying cycle. (The vinegar is an efficient odor reducer that can be used to help remove stinky dryer smells.

9) Wash the towels afterward so they don't smell like vinegar in the future!
